Drive around Zhongshan and the first thing you will notice is the parks actually have people milling about in them. These green spaces are not for show; they are for use by a citizenry known for its sporting passions. People fly kites in them, play basketball and table tennis in them, and snooze in them when there is nothing else to do. And then they rise to go shopping along a two-kilometer walking street.
It’s hard not to be impressed by the energy of Zhongshan residents. At the same time, however, they are also quite different in their attitude towards balancing work and play. The hectic lifestyles of the eastern side of the delta are not for these people; they like to play. So if you have some spare time during your visit, you might want to just walk around as they do, soaking up the atmosphere of one of the more livable cities in the PRD.
