Zhongshan exported US$2.3 million of leather shoes to the EU in October, up 130 per cent, the Zhongshan Commercial Daily reported. So far this year Zhongshan has exported US$29.217 million of shoes to the EU, up 1.6 times year on year.
The increase in exports was made despite the EU imposing a 16.5 per cent anti-dumping tax on Chinese leather shoes in October, which led to an immediate decrease in Guangdong leather shoe exports to the EU by 10.3 per cent in the same month.
The report said Zhongshan’s leather shoe manufacturers are mostly foreign owned, and they had the strength to negotiate with the buyers to make them share the rising cost.
