Maersk containers roll off the line in Dongguan

Maersk, one of the world’s biggest shipping companies, has started producing containers at its new plant in Dongguan, the Dongguan Daily reported.

The US$75 million plant covers an area of 300,000 sq. m and is expected to produce between 170,000 and 180,000 containers each year. Bent Carlsen, Maersk’s chief for containers, said that containers produced at the plant will be used by Maersk companies. He also said that Maersk would spend US$50 million to build the plant’s second phase.
