New labor rules in Guangzhou

Companies in Guangzhou will have to report to the Municipal Bureau of Labour and Social Security if they plan to lay off 20 or more employees at a time, the Information Times reports.
The company will have to justify the redundancies and provide relocation assistance to the staff affected. They will also be held liable if unable to pay the required severance compensation.
On the positive side, for companies who hire older, previously unemployed people, (women over 40, men over 50), the municipal government will help to cover the allowance of their social insurance.
