Inside the Pearl River Delta

Shenzhen Business info

Shenzhen is still the best place to set up a wholly owned foreign enterprise. There is less red tape, and costs are a fraction of anywhere else on the mainland: for example, setting up a WOFE consulting company requires paid-in capital of just 100,000 yuan, compared with about 800,000 in Beijing.

Logistics, meanwhile, are vastly superior, thanks to close proximity to the world’s most efficient sea and air ports, in Shenzhen and a short drive over the border in Hong Kong.

On the trading calendar, the highlight of the coming quarter is the China Electronics Fair, which has been going since 1964. It rotates between Shenzhen and Shanghai, and the Spring session is being held in Shenzhen from April 12-14. This year it will be held in the massive International Convention and Exhibition Center, covering a floor space of 67,500 sq m. The organisers say 2,600 exhibitors and 60,000 buyers are expected to attend.
