Mandarin Oriental Macau: central elegance

Cool, spacious luxury in the city center is the hallmark of the Mandarin Oriental Macau. Conveniently close to the Sands Macau, Hong Kong ferry terminal, Macau Cultural Center and the hub of the city's cultural and entertainment attractions, the 435-room, five-star hotel has long enjoyed a reputation for elegant luxury. It has four great restaurants and a bar (about to be renovated), plus daytime pleasures at a 15,000 square meter resort with fitness, spa facilities and a childrenís club (see page 20 for more details).

Amid the tony Mediterranean architecture of its spa buildings, the trendy indoor-outdoor "MediterAsian" grill and exotic Naam Thai restaurant are close at hand. The hotel's other signature restaurant, Mezzaluna, with its Tuscan villa dÈcor, has always ranked high, if not highest, among Macau's fine restaurants. Most of its tables are arranged in view of the open kitchen with its wood-fired oven, one of the features that allow Mezzaluna to serve really memorable Italian cuisine.

Shoppers will be delighted to find luxury retailers like Hermes, Christian Dior, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Burberry Ferragamo, Armani and Dunhill at their doorstep in the ground floor shopping arcade.
