Old World Charm: Pousadas Sao Tiago and Coloane

Two traditional ­Portuguese-style inns, one on the tip of the Macau Peninsula, the other out on tranquil Coloane Island, combine luxury with romantic ambience and views of the South China Sea. The 23-room São Tiago is built on the foundations of a fort, with sprawling shade trees on the terrace and many original architectural features, like a tiny chapel, preserved. The Pousada Coloane (above) has recently been renovated, and is run by the charming Fernandes family.
